Chargers baseball splits with Becker

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team split a doubleheader with Becker on Thursday afternoon. Becker won the first game 11-1, while the Chargers took the second game 1-0.

The Chargers will conclude their trip with a nine-inning game against Juniata tomorrow morning at 9:45 in Auburndale.

GAME ONE — Becker 11, Colby-Sawyer 1

Becker got on the board in its first at-bat with a sac fly from Ben Mazzone.

The Hawks added three runs in the third with three RBI singles. Becker added a fifth run in the top of the fifth on a Daniel Diaz RBI single.

The Chargers’ run came in the bottom of the fifth when Tim Unczur scored on a bases loaded walk.

Becker tacked on six runs in the top of the seventh to earn the 11-1 victory. Diaz and Coby Hussey had RBI triples in the inning,

Unczur led the Chargers with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate.

Four Hawks finished the game with two hits.

Tanyon Ventres earned the win. He went 4.2 innings and gave up one run and struck out five.

Ryan Glendye took the loss after six innings of work. He surrendered five runs on eight hits and struck out three.

GAME TWO — Colby-Sawyer 1, Becker 0

The second game featured a dominant pitching performance from Tim Unczur. He tossed a complete game shutout to earn the team’s first victory of the season. Unczur scattered five hits and struck out four.

The game’s lone run came in the top of the second when AJ Cavossa hit a sac fly to center that scored Charlie Danaher.

Brendan Barrett went 2-for-4 to lead all hitters.

Becker’s Tevon Johnson also pitched well. He went the distance with one run allowed on five hits and eight strikeouts.
