‘Managing Anxiety at School and at Home’: a free presentation by Lynn Lyons, LCSW

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — On Monday, April 8 Springfield School District will host a presentation by Lynn Lyons titled “Managing Anxiety at School and at Home: Strategies to Interrupt the Worry Cycle.”

When children, teens and their parents are in the grips of worry and stress, it feels overwhelming and mysterious. Anxiety is a very persistent master; when it moves into families, it takes over daily routines, schoolwork, bedtime and recreation. To make matters worse, the things adults (including many therapist and school systems) do to help and console anxious children actually make the worry cycle stronger. The great news? Research shows that modifying certain patterns makes a big difference in whether or not children go on to become anxious or depressed teens and adults. This presentation teaches concrete strategies that normalize worry and help families respond and react to worry in a different way.

Lynn is a licenced clinical social worker and psychotherapist from Concord. She has been in private practice for 28 years specializing in the treatment of anxiety disorders in adults and children. Lynn will speak to school staff and professionals at 4 p.m. and then to parents and the community at 7 p.m. at the Springfield High School auditorium. This presentation is free and both sessions are open to the public. Childcare will be provided for the 7 p.m. session.
