CONCORD — The House of Representatives voted today to pass HB 496, which establishes a committee to identify the requirements needed to commit New Hampshire to a goal of at least 50 percent renewable energy for electricity by 2040. Rep. Jacqueline Cali-Pitts (D-Portsmouth), prime sponsor of the legislation, released the following statement:
“Renewable energy is a critical piece of reducing our state’s reliance on fossil fuels, driving down energy bills, and working to combat climate change. By establishing a committee to determine what is needed to accomplish the goal of at least 50 percent renewable energy for electricity generation by 2040, House Bill 496 is an important piece of increasing energy efficiency. It is straight forward, common sense legislation that will set a course to advance New Hampshire’s commitment to renewable energy for the future.”
