RICHMOND, Vt. — Vermont Interfaith Power and Light (www.vtipl.org) announced that through the Katy Gerke Memorial Program, five Vermont churches received matching grants that helped them to implement energy efficiency projects during 2018; and, year-to-date in 2019, three additional matching grants have been awarded. These grants have helped churches to obtain professional energy audits, install insulation, energy efficient HVAC equipment, energy efficient lighting and weatherization that will reduce their operating costs and greenhouse gas emissions. Vermont Interfaith Power and Light is a Vermont 501(c)3 whose mission is to support the efforts of faith communities in addressing climate change. Vermont Interfaith Power and Light administers the Katy Gerke Memorial Program (KGMP) and through this program matching grants are available for professional energy audits, energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. The Katy Gerke Memorial Program has been established by Dr. Paul Gerke in memory of his wife, the late Dr. Katy Gerke. The mission of the KGMP is to improve the energy efficiency of Christian churches and church-owned buildings in Vermont and the following 12 towns in the Upper Connecticut River Valley in New Hampshire: Bath, Charleston, Claremont, Cornish, Hanover, Haverhill, Lebanon, Lyme, New London, Oxford, Piermont and Plainfield.
