To the editor,

In a perfect world, the organization I work for would never exist. Children would be loved, nurtured and cared for, not only by those who brought them into this world, but by all they encountered on their journey to adulthood.

I work for Court Appointed Special Advocates, known as CASA of New Hampshire, and our “business” is advocating for the state’s children who have been abused, abandoned and endangered by those in charge of their fate. My role is to supervise and help recruit volunteers who will advocate for these children in court — be their voice, speak up for their needs, let them know that they are not alone in this dark period of their life and to help these volunteers manage their case to bring about the best possible outcome. Through this job, I have met, and continue to meet, people who take the desire to give back seriously, who are unafraid of challenges and heartbreak, who live by the creed “if I can change just one life for the better …” — individuals who are fierce when it counts the most. I love these people for everything they do, for all they bring day-in and day-out, and for the impact they are having on our future — our children. Our CASAs are amazing individuals who want to ensure that children are given every chance possible to be safe and to thrive.

Please join me during National Child Abuse Prevention Month and Volunteer Appreciation Week in thanking these everyday heroes for all they do for children in Claremont, the Upper Valley, the Lake Sunapee region and beyond.
