SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — On April 6, the Hartness House Inn and Steampunk Society of Vermont will host the Cartoon Cosplay Rewind, an 80s and 90s cartoon-themed cosplay ball to raise seed money for the Springfield Vermont Steampunk Festival.
Those with the urge to dress up like Inspector Gadget or Rainbow Brite, or perhaps create the most epic Transformer costume known to man, will enjoy this fundraising event while helping to support the town of Springfield as well. The cosplay ball will run from 7 p.m. to midnight, and the Hartness House has overnight packages available which include event tickets and a fun themed breakfast the next morning.
The 80s and 90s featured a host of amazing cartoons that so many know and love. It offers so many options for costuming. The Hartness House staff is excited about checking in Ren and Stimpy, Papa Smurf, Jem, GI Joe, Bart Simpson, She-Ra, Pinky and the Brain, and a predicted swarm of Gummi Bears, Thundercats, and Snorks. It will be a very entertaining night for those who grew up watching cartoons during this time frame, or those who raised children during the 80s and 90s and will think back fondly to seeing these shows on their TV screen.
In addition to fantastic people watching, the event will feature 80s and 90s themed activities, taking event attendees back in time. For those who aren’t being entertained by Mrs. Pacman, Magic 8 Balls, or heated games of Rock Em Sock Em Robots, there will be a themed photo booth transporting attendees to Castle Grey Skull, Sponge Bob’s abode, or a variety of other surprising cartoon backdrops. Of course there will be a DJ and cash bar to keep everyone dancing the night away, and Hartness House will have fun themed grab and go food options available at their tavern during the event. The tavern will also be open before the event for those that would like to arrive early and have dinner beforehand, which will no doubt be entertaining to navigate in a Care Bear costume.
This event, like all others hosted by the Steampunk Society of Vermont, promotes the nonprofit’s mission to establish Springfield, Vermont as the Steampunk Capital of Vermont. The organization hopes that drawing attention to the rich history of Springfield and branding it as a Steampunk town will make Springfield an appealing place to visit, work, and ideally draw business owners to the area to create more local jobs. In addition to bolstering the town, the Steampunk Society of Vermont uses proceeds from events they run to generate scholarships for local students planning to study the STEAM subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
