WENHAM, Mass.— The New England College women’s lacrosse team picked up their first win of the 2019 season on the east coast, as they defeated Gordon College 14-7 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Brigham Complex.
With the win, the Pilgrims improve to 2-1 while the Fighting Scots fall to 0-6 on the year.
NEC LEADERS
Tara Bainbridge led the way with six goals and a pair of assists, while Alana Scott chipped in three goals and two helpers. Lauren Rich paced the New England College defense with five caused turnovers.
GORDON LEADERS
Greta Moore and Olivia McCarrick matched each other with three goals and one assist for the Fighting Scots. McCarrick had her presence known on the defensive end, as she caused a game-high seven turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophia Castriotta got the scoring started for New England College, as the freshman scored her first collegiate goal, just under the two-minute mark. Bainbridge picked up back-to-back goals, giving the Pilgrims the 3-0 advantage before McCarrick got Gordon on the board. Kaitlyn Kostigen and Scott got in on the scoring before Bainbridge scored her third of the game, halfway through the first half.
Another goal from Bainbridge and two from the Fighting Scots, the two teams entered the halftime intermission with NEC leading 7-3.
The Pilgrims came out of the break with back-to-back goals before the two teams alternated goals the rest of the way. New England College got goals from Tailor Chapin, Bainbridge, Scott, Castriotta, and Alyssa Tursi down the stretch.
GOALTENDERS
McKenzie Gallasso made seven stops in the crease for the Pilgrims to pick up the win, while Annabel Christenson tallied nine saves for the Fighting Scots.
