UNITY — The Unity Historical Society is excited to celebrate the life of Roberta Callum and all the effort she has put into our Society and the town of Unity. An open house is planned for Sunday, March 24 at the Unity Town Hall from 1 to 3 p.m. She will be happy to see all her old and new friends from the area and other historical societies.
Also being honored are other members who have put in much time and effort over the years: Jim Romer, Tyyne Cox, Audrey Shepard and Lois (Cookie) Palmer. Please join us on Sunday!
The Unity Historical Society was started in 1984 and met in homes until the town hall had a basement put under it and a room was given to the society for a museum. Later, when the Chase Tavern was updated and for the town offices, the upstairs became the library and the new museum. Roberta and others were a great force in having the tavern saved and in raising the money and grants to accomplish the work.
The museum has many artifacts of the past with clothing, pictures, voting records and genealogies to name only a few. Feel free to contact any members for an opportunity to examine these. The society meets from April to October on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Anyone interested in history is welcome to join.
Again, please join us on Sunday to honor Roberta and the others.
