Cosmos unified opens with win

In its 4th season, the Springfield Cosmos unified basketball team came out ready to conquer Mill River from last year’s upset in the playoffs with a 28-27 victory Tuesday evening.

Throughout the contest, sophomores Paul Dana and Haley Gibbons led the cosmos in assists for their team. Consistent passes from the two were one of the key components in the win.

From the tip-off, senior Falisha Maly dominated the Cosmos’ baseline as the leading scorer with eight points. “Maly’s persistence and veteran experience was a key element in leading the team with a triumph over Mill River,” said Springfield head coach Margaret Gultekin.

Senior Gavin Glidden and junior Alex Sanborn came in as second leading scorers, with six points each. Sanborn’s drive to the basket and Glidden’s putbacks would have Mill River and Springfield in a momentous battle up and down the court.

Senior Rachel Campbell and sophomore Jason Supry each added 4 Points. At the half, senior and first-time player Catherine Parsons started it off with a pass to Haley Gibbons. Freshman Patrick Toner kept up with his teammates up and down the court. Senior Hannah Anderson and sophomore Luke Machado assisted their team with a few rebounds.

For Mill River, Ian Smith led the team with nine points, and Addison Czar had six points.

The Cosmos will host Brattleboro at Dressler gym on Wednesday, March 27th. Tip-off starts at 4 p.m.
