Student video contest deadline April 1

BERLIN, Vt. — The Vermont Highway Safety Alliance (VHSA) is seeking final entries from Vermont high school students for the second annual #802phonesdown!headsup! public service announcement video contest. The contest asks students to research the issue of distracted driving and produce a 25-second video designed to encourage young drivers to stay focused behind the wheel. Students have until April 1 to produce and submit their video for a chance to win up to $750.

Finalists will receive instructions to promote their video on social media. Winners will be judged on both the quality of the video and their social media results. There will be an additional “People’s Choice” award for an entry that solicits the most votes from the public. The first-place winner(s) will be awarded $750; second-place $500; third-place $250; and people’s choice award $500.

The winning videos will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Vermont State House on May 10 at 11 a.m. and distributed on social media sites by the VHSA and safety partners.
