$26 million modernization bid in Sunapee is defeated

SUNAPEE — The Sunapee School District 2019-20 operating budget of $12,506,783 was supported by voters Tuesday, 525-418.

There were 970 voters going to the polls from a checklist of 2,925 or 33 percent.

A three-year teacher contract passed, 545-409. The cost for the 2019-20 fiscal year will be $115,577 followed by $161,642 in 2020-21 and $165,815 in 2021-22. 

Article 3, a request for $26 million for the Sunapee Central Elementary School Modernization Project was defeated, 548 No and 364 Yes. A 3/5 ballot vote was required for passage.

Voters gave their approval to appropriate $25,000 to be placed in the School Facilities Capital Reserve Fund to come from the unassigned fund balance at the end of the June 30, 2019 fiscal year. There is currently $186,289 in the fund. The vote was 597-344.

Andrew Nichols, 691 votes, and Kerri McCaul Claus, 626 votes were elected to three-year terms on the School Board. Aaron Simpson polled 811 votes for Moderator and Alan Doherty picked up 800 for School Treasurer.
