LUBBOCK, Texas and SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Dorothy Mae (Bibens) Blais, 59, passed away on Feb. 2, 2019. She was born July 26, 1959, in Springfield, Vermont the daughter of Miller and Barbara (Trefry) Bibens.
She attended Springfield Schools and graduated from Springfield High School class of 1977.
On Aug. 18, 1979, she married Bernard Blais, and they were married for 9 years before he passed away on Feb. 27, 1989.
She graduated from New Hampshire Community Technical College, now known as River Valley Community College, where she received her associate’s degree in medical records technology. She worked at Springfield Hospital and Mount Ascutney Hospital before relocating down south. After moving to Lubbock, she began working for Lubbock Heart Hospital and Peak Medical Records.
Dorothy loved music and comedy. She shared this with her family and community. For several years, she showed off her talents in the Springfield High School Alumni Association’s Variety Shows. She was a vocalist, played guitar and even performed comedy sketches.
She was a member of North Springfield Baptist Church. She took pride in the number of years that she sang in the choir.
She is survived by her brothers, David (Sandra) Bibens of North Springfield, William (Marty) Bibens of Lubbock, Texas, Kilburn Bibens of Springfield; her sisters, Rebecca (Lee) Warren of Poulsbo, Washington and Rosalie Pettiford of Jackson, Tennessee; her sister-in-law Elaine Bibens of Poultney; her children, William Blais of Springfield and Barbara (Charles) McCollumn of Hornell, New York; two granddaughters, Meredith and Maelyn McCollumn of Hornell, New York; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Rodney Bibens.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at North Springfield Baptist Church at 1 p.m. on April 14, 2019 with Rev. George Keeler officiating.
