Cool days ahead at Fiske

CLAREMONT — It took 115 years, but come summer the Fiske Free Library in Claremont will be a cool place to visit.

The Fiske will be air conditioned for the first time.

“It got uncomfortable during the summer months,” said Library Director Mike Grace.

The estimated cost of $30,000 will be covered from two sources. Mascoma Bank gave the library a $15,000 grant and the balance will come from money left to the library by the late Helen Cormier of Claremont who passed away in 2018. There were no stipulations on how that $20,000 could be spent, according to Grace.

The air conditioning units will be installed by a Claremont company and Grace hopes they will be up and running by the start of the summer season.

During its first 115 years, the Fiske Free Library located on Broad Street utilized fans including ceiling fans that were installed in the 80’s or 90’s, Grace said.
