Evelyn Cormier in final Idol round

By ARCHIE MOUNTAIN
CLAREMONT — Evelyn Cormier made her Big League debut Monday night on the West Coast during a two-hour television show that served to introduce her to the entire nation.

Now, she’s punched her ticket to what could be a championship run on American Idol.

The 20-year-old Cormier’s home base is Claremont where her family resides.

Over the past three weeks Cornier took giant steps forward She was one of 40 contestants selected to head to Hollywood as the field of hopefuls narrowed down.

She advanced with a smaller group of 20 singers who performed duet performances with well-known partners over two nights. Of the 20, 10 each night, a total of 14 were victorious and will now head to the weekly competition that television viewers across America will get to decide who goes on and who goes home.

Cormier was thrilled when she ended up singing “Wicked Games” with her dream duet partner, Chris Isaak, according to a report.

Evelyn actually auditioned for the show with this song and Isaak said he was excited to perform it because he’s never done it as a duet, the report continued.

The three judges, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan, all had positive remarks when talking about Cormier’s performance with Isaak. Luke said he had a front row seat to a really special moment; Lionel called Evelyn a stylist and Katy said she believed every word she was singing.

At the end of Tuesday’s television show the three judges were involved in selecting the seven contestants to move on. Richie was first to announce his pick and all he said was “Evelyn” who took her seat and couldn’t stop smiling.

Once the seven were announced from the Tuesday night competition, the seven Monday night winners joined them on the stage.

“It was a lot of pressure on me, singing with Chris,” Cormier related.

As for Isaak, he was also impressed. “She’s got it. She’s got what it takes to become the next Idol,” he said.

Evelyn was born in Claremont and admits she was a very outgoing child. “I’ve always been fascinated by music,” she told a reporter for Billboard.

For the past few years, friends have been telling Cormier she should try out for American Idol, the Billboard article continued.

“That was never something that I was super passionate about because I felt scared that maybe I didn’t have a place. I do have a different sound that is not the typical American Idol sound. So I felt I would get cut immediately and I would tell people ‘I don’t think that’s my path.”

She found out Monday night that she was indeed on the right path.
