Hinsdale 11, Sunapee 10
HINSDALE – Sunapee’s season opener needed an extra inning to decide the victor.
Hinsdale got out to a 7-1 lead after two innings and the Lakers had to fight back to make it a game. Ellie Frederick’s solo home run (first of two on the day) got things started for the Lakers in the third inning as they began their climb back into the game.
“Hinsdale played well defensively,” said Sunapee head coach Bonnie Cruz. “We had a ton of errors and too many walks… too many unearned runs not in our favor.”
The Lakers used three different pitcher. Ellie Frederick pitched two innings, walking 4 and striking out 3. Anah Durkee pitched four innings in relief, walking 2 and striking out 3. Natalie Austin pitched the last two innings, striking out 1 and walking 1.
On offense, Frederick was 4-for-5 with 2 HRs and 2 RBIs. Elizabeth Bennett was 2-for-5, Tess Palin was 3-for-5, Mackenzie Wrightington had a double, and Durkee helped her own cause with an RBI.
Coach Cruz is hoping this game will help get some of the kinks out early in the season. “Our bats came alive,” she said. “It’s nice to get that over with… the more we get outside to play, the better we’ll be.
Sunapee travels to Farmington on Friday.
Fair Haven 16, Windsor 4
WINDSOR, Vt. – After leading just 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth, Fair Haven rallied late to pull ahead.
“The game was closer than the score shows,” said Windsor coach Heather Stearns.
Peyton Richardson was on the mound for the Yellow Jackets, throwing 7 complete innings, allowing 15 hits, having 4 Ks and only 4 BB.
“They hit the ball whole and found the holes,” said Stearns.
FH scored five runs in the first off four hits, one error and walking the first batter.
“It was a little tough to dig out of the hole but we chipped away by scoring a run in the first off a walk and two hits. We didn’t answer in the second, but got a run in the 3rd, 4th and 7th inning,” said Stearns of her team.
Windsor had a total of 10 hits for the day.
