Local track teams kick off ’19

NORTH SUTTON – Kearsarge Regional played host on Wednesday, April 10 to kick off the track and field season for a few local programs.

Competing with Kearsarge was Newport, Fall Mountain and Sunapee, as well as Proctor, Hopkinton, Mascoma and Hinsdale.

The home Cougars came away with a victory on the boys’ side, while Hopkinton had the highest girls’ total points. Kearsarge had Ben Corbyn qualify for the state meet in high jump, Mya Dube in the 800m, Madi Neal in pole vault, and Eddie Stowell in the 800m.

Fall Mountain finished third in both the boys and the girls totals, while Newport had good showings as well, finishing second for boys and fourth for girls.

Sunapee finished sixth for girls and eighth for boys.

“It was great to get out there and get the first meet under our belts,” said Sunapee head coach Jon Reed. “For a number of kids, it was a refresher of what it takes to compete in a track meet, and for our new athletes, it was an introduction to how a track meet operates. After Wednesday’s meet we have a better understanding of where we are as individuals and as a team and where to go from here.”
