Jacquelyn L. Bell

NEWPORT — Jacquelyn L. (Reasoner) Bell , 89, of Newport passed away March 29, 2019 after a short period of failing health. She was born March 18, 1930 in Newport to Dorothy Reasoner (Eaton) and Floyd Reasoner and was a 1948 graduate of Stevens High School.

Jackie married her husband Gordon on Oct. 13, 1951. She worked in town for the New England Telephone & Telegraph Company as an operator, but was mostly known for her work as a writer for the Argus Champion. Jackie and Gordon were also members of the John H. Cain Golf Club where for many years they helped coordinate the John H. Cain Classic Golf Tournaments. Jackie also enjoyed many years of travel with Gordon and long time best friends Myrna and Bill Harrington.

Jackie is survived by her son Lari and wife Marge; grandson Casey and wife Bonnie; and great-grandson Declan of Missoula, Montana; step-grandson Derrick DiMaggio and wife Heidi; and great-grandchildren Payton and Brooklynn of Newport. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Dottie Colby of North Carolina and Brenda Bell of Portsmouth, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon, her brother Ronald, and sister Ginger.

A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, May 5 from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Forester Club on Maple Street in Newport.
