Pembroke 7, Stevens 3
Trailing 3-2 entering the 6th inning, Stevens tied the game in the bottom of the 6th on a Cam Macia double that scored Owen Taylor, but Pembroke got a big two-out, two-run single in the top of the 7th, and added another two-run hit to break the 3-3 tie and went on to win the game 7-3.
Stevens had 6 doubles in the game. Owen Taylor had a pair of doubles. Ethan Johnson, Josh Stithen, Alex Taylor doubled in addition to Macia’s RBI double. Gabe Miller had the other Stevens hit. Dennis Peaslee had an RBI ground out.
Ethan Johnson started, working into the 5th inning and allowed 2 earned runs. Josh Stithen came on in relief and took the loss but pitched well, recording three strikeouts.
Stevens hosts Plymouth on Friday night at 7PM.
Mascenic 8, Newport 1
The Tigers were only trailing 2-1 going into the fifth, but then ran into some pitching problems. They gave up 6 runs in that fifth inning.
“We played well defensively with no errors,” said Newport head coach Scott McNamara. “Hitting-wise, we had a tough day at the plate but it will say we were better than Tuesday and we are improving a little at a time.
The Tigers (0-2) will host Conant on Friday, April 26.
Leland and Gray 4, Bellows Falls 2
Jack Brown pitched a great game for the Terriers on the mound, going 2 2/3 innings with 10 Ks and only allowing 5 hits, but it wasn’t enough on Wednesday.
“We left nine runners on base and only had four hits,” said BF head coach Bob Lockerby. “We had a couple key mistakes at the wrong times.”
The Terriers had runners on second and third with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t manage to do any damage.
For BF, Grady Lockery went 2-for-3 with 3 stolen bags and an RBI. Jack Burke had 2 runs after a walk and a HBP. Jeb Monier had a triple.
BF (1-2) is scheduled to go to Otter Valley on Saturday.
New Hampton 5, KUA 4
The first rematch in 2019 of last season’s Lakes Region League championship game lived up to the anticipation. KUA took the early lead 2-0 after the second inning, and extended that lead to 3-0 in the fifth.
Then New Hampton put up four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead. KUA tied the score in the top of the seventh on a steal of home by Brian Carrabes on an attempted pick-off play at 3B.
New Hampton walked-off for the 5-4 win on a single to right field with bases loaded, two outs and a 3-2 count. Trey Parker pitched well, in his 6.0 innings of work, giving up 5 earned runs on 6 hits, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. KUA was led offensively by Jeremy Sigl, Jonah Silverman and Carrabes, who each had two hits, while Andrew Hadlock, Parker and Kyle Young each had a hit apiece.
KUA is back in action Friday vs. St. Paul’s School at NH Technical Institute. First pitch is at 4:30 pm.
SOFTBALL
Mascenic 15, Newport 3
Injuries continue to derail the Tigers to start this season, as Mascenic jumped on them, outscoring Newport 8-1 over the first two innings.
Mascenic out-hit Newport 11-5, and the Tigers had 10 errors.
For Newport, Lacey McNeel was 2-for-3 with a HR, a double, 2 runs, and an RBI.Jenna Maheu and Kelsey Wheeler added singles and Megan Howard had a double and an RBI.
