SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — Join the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce this Saturday, May 4 for the 49th Annual Green Up Day! The main event will run from 8 a.m. to noon, beginning at the parking lot in front of People’s United Bank, where volunteers can sign-in and pick up their official green trash bags. Bags will also be available for advance pick-up this week at the chamber office (56 Main Street, Suite 2, Springfield) on Wednesday and Thursday, between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Please remember to dress appropriately — gloves and proper footwear recommended — and we suggest wearing neon for safe visibility. Feel free to bring rakes, shovels, brooms, and any tools that might come in handy. We’re also looking for help with mulching the bushes along Main Street and in the Cinema plaza.
Thank-you cookout at noon for all Green Up participants! Flying Crow Coffee Co. will also be offering free coffees for Green Up volunteers, and Trout River will be offering $1 off your first beer (age 21+) at the brewery that afternoon with proof of participation. We’d like to express our thanks to Woodbury Florist for supplying and delivering the mulch, and to VTEL for sponsoring our Green Up Day event.
Also thanks to Jake’s South Street Market for providing the hotdogs and buns for grilling. Our gratitude goes out to the Public Works Department for collecting and properly disposing of all the filled bags. And a shout out to all the businesses, organizations, and individuals that contribute and volunteer with us every year — it takes a village! Last year we reached more than 170 volunteers! This year our goal is to reach 200 participants! Please join us and help our town reach this goal! For more information, please contact the chamber at 802-885-2779 or email [email protected]. Thank you to everyone helping to keep Springfield green and gorgeous!
