Sunapee 14, Newport 1
NEWPORT – The Lakers jumped on the Tigers early at Bill Bates Field in Newport, scoring two runs in each of the first four innings, and adding one in the sixth before crossing the plate five times in the seventh.
For the Lakers, Jackson Cooney was 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs, 2 walks, and 4 runs scored. Darren Hulton had a 2-RBI single. Sean Shisko, Harper Flint, and Lane Smith all had RBIs.
On the mound for Sunapee, Gabe Hastings pitched 6 innings, struck out 7, and allowed 3 hits and 2 walks. Drew Clifford came on for the seventh and retired the Tigers in order, recording one strike out.
The three Tiger hits on the day came from Tony Robertson, JT Blaine, and Kobe Gallo, and Blaine scored the lone run on a Sunapee throwing error.
For Newport, Blaine pitched the first three innings, followed by three innings from Jamison Ball, and the final inning from Robertson.
Newport combined to walk 12 batters and plunk 3 more.
The Tigers (D-III) fall to 0-3 and will have 9 games over the next 11 day, starting with hosting Conant today at 4 p.m.
Sunapee (D-IV) moves to 5-1 and will host Concord Christian on Friday at 4 p.m. The Lakers have a home doubleheader against Farmington starting at noon on Saturday.
John Stark 3, Stevens 2
WEARE – John Stark scored a run in the first and the Cardinals came back to tie the game in the top of the second on three hits: Cam Macia singled, moved to third on a Gabe Miller single, and then scored on a base-knock from Ethan Johnson.
John Stark added 2 runs in the bottom-half of the second to go up 3-1.
In the top of the third, Stevens nearly tied the ballgame. Alex Taylor walked and came around to third on a Derrick Stanhope double. Owen Taylor then hit a long sacrifice-fly, scoring his brother Alex with Stanhope taking third. But, the Generals’ Nathan Isabelle got a pair of strikeouts to get of the jam still maintain a one-run lead.
After that third inning, both pitchers settled in and performed very well. Stevens’ Johnson had some tough luck on the day, coming away with the loss despite going the distance, giving up 5 hits, walking 3, and striking out 2 on just 76 pitches.
“Ethan really did a great job today,” said Stevens head coach Paul Silva. “He moved the ball around well and we made some very nice plays defensively. It was a great high school baseball game. We hit some balls well but right at them and they also ran down a few others.”
The Cardinals (2-3) will face 3-2 Lebanon on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Green Mtn. 12, Black River 7
CHESTER, Vt. – Dylan McCarthy came in on relief in a huge spot in the sixth, with the bases loaded, one out, and GM clinging to an 8-7 lead. McCarthy struck out the first batter and then forced a pop-out to get out of the inning. The Chiefs went on to score 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 12-7.
GM’s Rex Hill went 5 1/3, striking out 10, and allowing 6 hits, 2 walks, and 2 earned runs.
On offense, Keegan Ewald led the Chiefs, going 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBIs. McCarthy had a 2-RBI single and Reid Hryckiewicz had an RBI single to tie the game at 3 in the second inning.
GM is now 5-0 and travels to MSJ on Thursday.
Springfield 9, Windsor 2
SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – The Cosmos rallied for 7 runs across the third and fourth innings and played a clean game, only recording 1 error in Monday’s home win over the Yellow Jackets.
“We put the pressure on them early and didn’t give up,” said Springfield head coach Justin Devoid. “We strung some hits together at the right time and played solid defense.”
The Cosmos had 6 players all record a hit on the day: Dylan Merrow, Sam Presch, Brady Clark, Greg Otis, Collin Pinney, and Jake Stepler. Clark had 2 RBIs and Kaleb Chambers and Connor Starr each had 1 RBI.
Presch pitched all 7 innings for Springfield, allowing 5 hits 3 walks, and 2 runs while striking out 5.
For Windsor, Justin Smith, Robert Slocum, Dyland Hodgdon, Josh Gaudette, and Caleb Meagher all recored hits, with Smith having the lone-RBI.
After starting 0-4, Springfield has now won 2 of their last 3 as they head to Bellows Falls on Wednesday.
Windsor drops to 3-3 and travel to Otter Valley on Wednesday.
Kearsarge 2, Milford 1
NORTH SUTTON – Kearsarge picked up their first win in dramatic fashion on Monday evening, as a Milford error in the bottom of the eighth helped the Cougars to a walk-off victory.
Gabe Benedict scored to secure the win as Aiden Markoff reached on an infield error.
Noah Cooper got the start on the mound for Kearsarge, going 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 5.
“Noah Cooper was fantastic today,” said Kearsarge head coach Jon Hamel. “He pitched to contact, but we showed up and played great overall defense. We only committed two errors.
“I was very proud of Noah and the team’s performance grinding out a hard fought victory. Hopefully this will get them believing what we can accomplish if we limit walks and play solid defense, while also putting the ball in play.”
Kearsarge out-hit Milford 4-2, with their four hits coming from Noah Gray (2), Gabe Benedict, and Brendan Akpan. Brodie Mulligan had the Cougars lone-RBI.
Benedict came on the mound in the eighth and retired Milford in order.
KUA 7, VA 0
MERIDEN – A complete game no-hitter from senior Trey Parker shutdown the Vermont Academy offense, and Kimball Union’s bats came alive the second time through the lineup against VA’s ace, Jake Tuckner.
KUA scored one in the third, five in the fifth, and added an insurance run in the sixth. Jeremy Sigl went 3-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs, Noah Spaulding added two hits and 2 RBIs, and Brian Carrabes had two hits and an RBI. Jonah Silverman and Trey Parker added a hit apiece. Tyler Wenning and Carrabes each scored twice for KUA, while Sigl, Silverman and Parker each scored once.
Defensively, key plays were made throughout the game. Carrabes, Silverman, Spaulding, Wenning, Andrew Hadlock and Parker all contributed with assists and putouts in a well-played defensive game by KUA.
KUA is back at home at Power’s Field against undefeated New Hampton School this Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 pm. This is a rematch of last year’s Lakes Region League Championship game. The first rematch two weeks ago ended with NHS walking off for a 5-4 win.
SOFTBALL
Newport 10, Sunapee 9
NEWPORT – The Tigers picked up their first win of the season in a close one Monday over the Lakers.
Sunapee had the lead, 6-4, before a 3-run bottom of the third for the Tigers gave them a 7-6 edge. The Tigers added another run to go up 8-6, and Sunapee had the answer in the top of the seventh, plating 3 runs to go up 9-8. But, with their last at-bats, Newport put two more on the board in the bottom of the seventh to walk-off with the win.
For Newport, they were led by their first two batters in the lineup, as lead-off hitter Lacey McNeel was 3-for-3 with an RBI and 2 runs, and Jenna Maheu came up big, going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, and 3 RBIs. Alicia Urista chipped in with a single and an RBI.
Ellie Frederick had a huge day for the visiting Lakers, going 3-for-3 with 2 homers, a double and 4 RBIs. Elizabeth Bennett chipped in with a single and 2 RBIs.
Springfield 11, Windsor 4
SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – The Cosmos scored in every inning with balanced offense up and down the lineup.
And in the field, Hannah Crosby threw a 4-hitter for the Cosmos, with 7 strikeouts and 6 walks.
For Springfield, Arianna Cioffi was 4-for-4, Molly Leonard had a single and a 2-run homer, Jenna Veysey had a single and a double, and Ashley Chamberlain and Crosby each had 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
For Windsor, Brooke McKeen had 2 singles on the day.
Springfield will host Mill River in a rescheduled game on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. while Windsor will travel to play Otter Valley at the same time.
John Stark 6, Stevens 0
WEARE – Stevens fell to last year’s D-II state champions. “Stark’s pitcher was the best pitcher we have faced this season… striking out 12 and 1 walk,” said Stevens head coach Missy Nichols. “As the game progressed we became more aggressive in the batter’s box and started putting the ball in play.”
Stevens’ Madison Lapsley did a nice job on the mound against a strong team, as she had 2 strikeouts, 3 walks, and allowed 7 hits. The Cards are now 2-4 and will host Lebanon on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Stevens’ JV came away with a win against John Stark at home, 16-7, behind the pitching of Brianna Frisbee.
Green Mtn. 16, Burr and Burton 3
CHESTER, Vt. – Erika Knockenhauer was the winning pitcher for GM. She gave up 3 hits, walked 1 and struck out 11. Alex Hutchins led the way hitting-wise, going 4-for-5, scoring twice and knocking in 3 runs. Annie Lamson was 3-for-4, scored twice and had 3 RBIs. Tierney O’Brien was 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored. GM is now 3-1 and play at Black River on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
Rutland 51, Bellows Falls 1
WESTMINSTER, Vt. – Same Bates led Rutland with 2 grand slams, a triple, 2 doubles, and a single in the lopsided game. For BF, Taryn Darrell had two Ks between the first and fourth on the mound, and Savannah Sylvester-Neal finished out the fourth and fifth. On offense, Emily Bazin had Bellows Falls’ lone run and had two singles for the Terriers. Grace Wilkinson got the RBI for Bazin’s run and Emma Graham added a single as well.
Across campus, Bellows Falls baseball fell to Rutland 3-2.
Campbell 13, Fall Mtn. 0
LITCHFIELD – On the mound for the Wildcats, Chloe Vogel allowed just 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3, but the defense behind her committed 6 errors.
On offense, Campbell held Fall Mtn. hitless on the day. “They’re a very strong team,” said Fall Mtn. head coach Kevin Hicks about Campbell.
The Wildcats are now 4-3 and are back in action Wednesday hosting Bellows Falls in the cup game.

WILTON – The Cardinals fought hard but couldn’t quite match Wilton-Lyndeborough, falling 6-3. Singles results are as follows: 1. Cally Barrette 1 — Emma Krug 8; 2.
