House passes legislation expanding Medicaid protections

CONCORD — The House of Representatives voted 210-150 today to pass SB 290, protecting Medicaid enrollees from needlessly losing coverage. released the following statement:

“Today’s vote to pass SB 290 reflects the bipartisan work of the House’s Health and Human Services Committee to assure that no one is needlessly kicked off their health care coverage,” said House Majority Leader Doug Ley (D-Jaffrey). “The safeguards established by this legislation would protect those covered by the Granite Advantage Health Care Program.”

“SB 290 clarifies and improves the work and community engagement requirement by recognizing the challenges of those who care for young children and grandchildren, are attending classes to further their education, or are recovering from a substance abuse disorder.”

“Given the Trump Administration’s ongoing attempts to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, it is imperative that state-level safeguards are implemented to protect the health care coverage that the Granite Advantage Health Care Program provides to over 50,000 Granite Staters.”

“While I applaud the Health and Human Services Committee for their bipartisan efforts, it should be noted that when it came to the final House vote, zero House Republicans supported their bipartisan proposal. I encourage Gov. Sununu to break from his party and recognize the harm that onerous work requirements can have on vulnerable Granite Staters.”
