EASTON, N.H. — Shortly after 2 p.m. on April 29, Conservation Officers with New Hampshire Fish and Game Department were advised by the Rescue Coordination Center in Montgomery, Texas, that a SPOT emergency beacon had been activated in the area of Clay Brook in Easton.
The beacon was registered to The Mountain School of Vershire, Vt. A call to the school was made and it was learned that a group of 24 students and three adult chaperones were camping in the area of the beacon alert.
While Conservation Officers were responding to the area one of the adult chaperones had hiked out and driven to a nearby residence to use a phone to call for assistance. It was learned that one of the 16-year-old students was suffering a medical emergency.
Conservation Officers initially hiked 1.25 miles into the area and determined that a four-wheeled ATV could be driven very close to the location of the ill student.
After assessing the student, it was determined that she would not be able to hike out, so she was transported out to the trailhead by ATV arriving at 5 p.m. LinWood Ambulance transported the student to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth for evaluation.
