Final Bellows Falls Woman’s Club meeting for the year

BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. — The final meeting of the Bellows Falls Woman’s Club for this club year will be held on May 14 at the United Church, School St., beginning at noon with a luncheon prepared and served by the Executive Board members. The suggested donation is $5. General Federation of Women’s Clubs of VT. President, Joan Isham, of the St. Johnsbury Woman’s Club, will be a guest. Following the luncheon, club directors for 2019-2021, and the recording secretary, 2019-2020, will be installed. The club is conducting a raffle of two gift bags of local products and certificates, with each bag valued at $250, and also of a gift bag donated by the Vermont Country Store. Tickets are available at Village Square Booksellers. The winning tickets will be drawn at the May meeting.

The annual club sponsored arts show was held at Bellows Falls Union High School on April 9. The club awarded ribbons for honorable mention, third, second, and first place winners in the prejudged art in several categories and quilts and gave a monetary prize to each first place winner. Members chose a Club Favorite piece and awarded Emily Wunderle a cash prize for her self portrait. The Family and Consumer Science students prepared and served a luncheon to the members for which they made a donation. Following the meal, the choral and band students entertained the members with several selections. An honorarium was presented to each department. The club has showcased the talents of the high school students in this way for over 40 years.

The club’s third High Tea was held on May 5 at the Masonic Temple. Attendees enjoyed sweets and savories provided by club members along with tea and punch. Walden Withum provided background harp music. Proceeds are earmarked for the club’s high school scholarship, in the amount of $1,500, to be presented at Class Night in June.

The executive board will meet during the summer to plan programs, establish committees, and formulate a budget for the next club year, which will begin on Sept.10.
