MANCHESTER — New Hampshire Magazine will honor recipients of the 2019 Excellence in Nursing Awards at its second annual celebration on May 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Downtown. This year’s recipients include 13 nurses in vital specialties, such as pediatrics, public health, leadership, education and more. New Hampshire Magazine will honor nurses from Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Concord Hospital, Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Nashua Public Health and Community Services, University of New Hampshire and New England Vascular Access. Tickets for the 2019 Excellence in Nursing Awards are available for $55 per person and can be purchased at nhmagazine.com/excellence-in-nursing.
New Hampshire Magazine, in partnership with the New Hampshire Nurses Association, launched the Excellence in Nursing awards last year as a way to put a spotlight on nurses’ skills and contributions as critical members of any healthcare team.
“Nurses go above and beyond to comfort, heal and educate, leaving a lasting impact on patients of all ages,” said Rick Broussard, editor of New Hampshire Magazine. “Nursing is critical in achieving comprehensive healthcare, and we’re excited to be able to honor another group of exceptional individuals from all corners of the state.”
2019 Excellence in Nursing Award recipients included several nurses from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
Ericka Bergeron, MSN, RN (Nurse Leader, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center)
Ericka Bergeron began working at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) as a dietary host, delivering meal trays to patients. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in nursing at West Virginia Wesleyan College, she returned to DHMC as a licensed nursing assistant on the inpatient orthopedic and trauma unit. After 10 years in the unit, she accepted a nurse manager position within the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock pediatric clinics and has been an integral part of the clinic’s reunification.
Paul E. Hodgdon, RN, VA-BC (Medical-Surgical Nursing , Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center)
Since joining the nursing staff in 2007, Paul E. Hodgdon has proven to be an extraordinary clinician who makes a difference for patients and families, while supporting the practice, as well as the growth and development of colleagues. Hodgdon was one of the first on the Vascular Access Services team to become Vascular Access Board Certified from the Vascular Access Certification Corporation. He is an active member of the Association for Vascular Access, participates in various online forums and attends specialty conferences. Hodgdon routinely shares his latest knowledge with colleagues through presentations during staff meetings and via group emails. Because of his commitment to continuous learning, and to implementing the most recent evidence-based practices, he is the go-to nurse for vascular access practice questions, training needs and consultation or advice about products and technology.
Kathleen Broglio, DNP, ANP-BC, ACHPN, CPE, FPCN (Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center)
Kathleen Broglio piloted a palliative care clinic specifically for patients with prior or current opioid use disorder and concurrent cancer-related pain. Seeing the positive impact on patients and her commitment to educating, she has led educational sessions for palliative medicine fellows, given 10 presentations in various pain management symposia across the country, and submitted five accepted presentations to the 2018 American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine Annual Assembly. She serves as a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for theNurse Practitioner Journal,and as a reviewer for numerous other journals. Broglio has also served on the board of the National Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center as vice president, is a steering committee member for the Metro New York Chapter of the Hospice and Palliative Nursing Association and is secretary for the American Society for Pain Management Nursing.
Daniel Moran, MSN, APRN (Gerontologic and Long-term Care Nursing, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center)
Daniel Moran started his career as an EMT, transitioning after that to paramedic, teacher and oncology nurse, which led him to become a primary care provider and training expert. Moran is a clinical and an academic role model, using his advanced clinical skills and nursing expertise to develop toolkits, train ambulatory care nurses and to coach the implementation of an evidence-based national model known as the Geriatric Interprofessional Team Transformation in Primary Care (GITT-PC), which aims to improve the care of older adults in primary care.
Daisy J. Goodman, DNP, MPH, MSN, APRN, CARN-AP, CNM (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center)
Daisy Goodman directs Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s women’s health services in the multidisciplinary Moms in Recovery program and is an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology, community medicine and family medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. She teaches healthcare quality improvement methods at The Dartmouth Institute, and is actively involved in resident and undergraduate medical education. Goodman was a leader in the March of Dimes New England chapter grant-funded project to develop and test an evidence-based toolkit for maternity care providers, which resulted in a publicly available toolkit to help maternity care practices provide coordinated and compassionate care and continued funding.
