Caccavaro is new B.A. at Newport

NEWPORT — George Caccavaro has been named Business Administrator of the Newport School District.

The announcement was made at a meeting of the Newport School Board on Thursday, May 9.

Caccavaro has been filling in at that position on an interim basis since February. His new contract for one year is scheduled to start with the 2019-20 school year that begins on July 1.

A resident of Claremont, Caccavaro, 78, will be paid $96,000 with no additional benefits for his full year of employment.

Caccavaro was employed at Cone-Blanchard Machine Company in Windsor, Vt., for many years where he once held the position of president and CEO. Upon leaving Cone-Blanchard he ran his own shop, Smith Machine, in Guild.

Following a period of retirement he returned to the work force at the Mascoma School District in West Canaan, ending up as that District’s Business Administrator for several years before retiring for a second time.

And now, he will come out of retirement again to join the Newport School District as its Business Administrator.
