Get behind our legislators on climate

There is no question that climate change is happening here and now. We see the consequences of climate inaction across the nation and globe. Due to the Trump Administration’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord, some of our legislators have proposed and passed H.R. 9 in the House, which is the Climate Action Now Act. Here in New Hampshire, both Chris Pappas and Annie Kuster have voted in favor of the bill in support of moving our nation towards a brighter future. The bill aims to restrict any federal funding for the withdrawal from the accord, keep our nation on track for the conditions of the pact, and force the Trump Administration to release a plan within 120 days with respect to keeping our nation’s commitment to curb carbon emissions.

Following the statement that the U.S. would be leaving the Paris Climate Accord, there was substantial opposition and over 2,000 businesses, 280 cities and towns, and 10 states all pledged to keep our promise to the world and continue to follow the terms of the accord. We should thank both Chris Pappas and Annie Kuster for showing us that our federal representatives realize the importance of the Paris Climate Accord, and recognize the consequences of climate inaction. By doing so, New Hampshire is not only standing up to this administration, but mapping out the future groundwork for our nation to be a climate leader, and not a denier.
