NEWPORT — The Newport Area Chamber of Commerce is partnering with
Newport’s Parlin Field Airport to present two nights of fireworks, free to the public.
Friday May 17th and Saturday May 18th.
“Blast” into Summer from 5-10 p.m. at the Airport for two nights will be filled with Class “B” fireworks displays presented by the New Hampshire Pyrotechnics Association.
The New Hampshire Pyrotechnics Association is social club filled with pyrotechnic enthusiasts ranging from professional fireworks manufacturers and shooters, to dedicated hobbyists who study every facet of pyrotechnics, to everyday folks who enjoy shooting fireworks in a safe and legal manner.
All are welcome to this free event to watch the NHPA Friday night for its open event,
and Saturday night for their open event with a spectacular 20-minute grand finale around
9:30 p.m.
On Saturday, there will be food vendors including Farley’s Fries, Kiwanis of Claremont
and Dufort’s Bakery. There will be live entertainment with the
band About Gladys, who plays a wide variety of rock and pop, from classic rock to
modern day. About Gladys is sponsored by Noise R Us Fireworks in Newport.
Because of the scope of these two evenings, Chamber officials expect this to be a huge event, drawing from many communities.
The Newport Recreation Department is driving shuttle for those who cannot find parking at the Airport. Parking will be available at Newport High School, where the shuttle bus will pick up and drop off.
Also on Saturday May 18th, Parlin Field Airport will be having 1ts Prop Blast for its
Open House and Fly-in from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the pancake breakfast from 8-11a.m.,
Young Eagle flights from 10 a.m. to 1p.m., food vendors all day, and the family fun day continues at 2 p.m. with a free bounce house for the kids until 8 p.m., sponsored by Newport Chevrolet.
Come early to see planes from all over New England, and then return Saturday night for an evening of fireworks, food, music and fun. Bring a lawn chair, blanket, and the family, and then enjoy the show. Chamber officials have urged the public not to bring any glass bottles or fireworks of their own and leave the show to the professionals.
The Newport Chamber of Commerce would like to thank Onnela Lumber, Newport
Chevrolet and Noise R Us for their sponsorship and would like to thanks the Town of
Newport, Newport Fire, Newport Police, Newport Recreation Department, Newport
Grounds Crew and the Parlin Field Airport for all working together to make this a
free evening for the community.
