This week through June 2, the Vermont State Police will be increasing enforcement efforts to promote safe, responsible driving in support of Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort) and Click It Or Ticket.
Operation C.A.R.E. is a national campaign by state police agencies across the country to decrease human suffering on our highways, by reducing traffic crashes through enforcement and education, with an emphasis on national holiday periods.
“The Vermont State Police enforcement priority remains focused on occupant protection, including seat-belt use, impaired and aggressive driving, as well as distracted driving,” said Lt. Tara Thomas, commander of the Vermont State Police’s Safety Programs.
Troopers will be working with other local and county law-enforcement agencies during this time to support the national Click It Or Ticket mobilization. High-visibility enforcement is an essential component in reducing traffic crashes.
“The Vermont State Police’s mission and safety message is to prevent loss of life on Vermont’s highways,” Lt. Thomas said. “Vermont has experienced six motor-vehicle-related deaths so far this year. About 20 percent of those fatalities involved unrestrained motorists.”
The Vermont State Police ask people who travel this holiday weekend and summer to remember that seat belts save lives, and to ensure that all car travelers — front seat and back, child and adult — buckle up, every trip, every time.
