NORTH SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — What do you do with old and worn out Bibles? Worn out Bibles should be reused by finding a place where they are needed and proper disposal of Bibles is either by creation or burying them. Several area churches will be sponsoring a collection of used and worn out Bibles on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 28 and 29, from 9 a.m. to noon at the First Congregational Church, and on Saturday, June 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the United Methodist Church and from 2 to 4 p.m. at the North Springfield Baptist Church.
Used Bibles will be made available for free at the North Springfield Baptist Church from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 2 and then a Cremation Service will be held at 8 p.m. at the North Springfield Baptist Church for a respectful disposal of the worn out Bibles. Used Bibles that are not claimed for use locally will be sent to places around the world where Bibles are difficult to find.
The Cremation Service is a special service for disposal of Bibles that involves readings from the Bibles that will be cremated and honoring the people that those Bibles have served. Cremation is a term used for both the burning of documents for disposal as well as for the disposal of human remains. The service that we will use is based on the service developed by the United Methodist Churches and published on their website. Participants in the service will represent the various churches involved in the collections.
