GMP wins 2018 Deane C. Davis Outstanding Business of the Year Award

COLCHESTER Vt. — Green Mountain Power (GMP) is the winner of the 2018 Deane C. Davis Outstanding Business of the Year Award. Vermont Business Magazine and the Vermont Chamber of Commerce give the prestigious prize to a Vermont business each year to honor the legacy of former Vermont Governor Deane C. Davis and his work to protect Vermont’s environment while growing its economy for all Vermonters.

“We love our customers, and we love Vermont, and we’re so grateful for this honor,” said GMP president and CEO Mary Powell as she accepted the award during a ceremony at UVM’s Grossman School of Business Wednesday evening. “Everyone at team GMP is laser focused on delivering clean, cost-effective power, and reliable power for all of the customers we serve so that communities and businesses can thrive.”

Some of GMP’s achievements highlighted by Vermont Business Magazine and the Vermont Chamber of Commerce in making the selection are the company’s commitment to having a 100% clean carbon free energy supply by 2025, and to be 100 percent renewable by 2030, its innovative programs to lower costs for all customers while reducing carbon emissions, and GMP’s workplace culture that cares for employees while fostering that innovation. GMP’s pioneering work in energy storage already saved Vermont customers more than $500,000 last year, and its groundbreaking offerings for customers are also helping to grow the renewable energy economy in Vermont.

“We are proud to have Green Mountain Power as the recipient of the 2018 Deane C. Davis Outstanding Business of the Year Award,” said John Boutin, publisher of Vermont Business Magazine. “They truly are deserving of this honor and join 28 other Vermont companies to be recognized over the years as one of the best in Vermont.”

Eighteen companies applied for the award this year, and two other finalists were Chroma Technologies and ReArch Companies. GMP was a finalist in 2011. The ceremony also honored several past award recipients — 2011 winner Foley Family of Companies, 2012 GW Plastics, 2013 Dealer.com, 2014 Champlain Cable and 2015 PC Construction — were also inducted into the Deane C. Davis Hall of Fame.
