Malanga, O’Mara, Lucas tops in the Class of 2019 at Sunapee

SUNAPEE — Nicole Malanga has been named Valedictorian of the Class of 2019 at Sunapee Middle High School.

The Top 5 also includes Blaise O’Mara, Salutatorian; Star Lucas, Honors Essayist; Elizabeth Bennett, ranked fourth and Emma Platt, fifth.

Malanga is the daughter of Thomas and Monique Malanga. She has been an active student at SMHS participating in varsity volleyball and track and field teams. She is a member of the Student Council and National Honor Society, she was awarded the Harvard Book Award and she participates in a number of co-curricular and extracurricular activities; including her passion for dance.

Last summer Nicole attended the prestigious St. Paul’s Advanced Summer Program and she was involved in political campaign as a function of her Senior Project. Next year Nicole will attend the University of Massachusetts – Amherst and study Political Science.

O’Mara is the son William and Theresa O’Mara. He has been an active student at SMHS participating in soccer, basketball and track and field programs. Blaise is a member of the Student Council and National Honor Society, he is the Senior Class President and he participates in a number of co-curricular and extracurricular activities and enjoys his passion for the outdoors through his membership in the Outing Club.

Blaise was recognized as the DAR Good Citizen and HOBY Youth Leadership award winner and he was the recipient of the St Michael’s College Book Award. Next year Blaise will attend the University of New Hampshire and study Engineering.

Lucas is the daughter of Sky and Jean Lucas. Star was a member of the varsity Soccer, basketball and softball teams, accumulating four State Championship Honors in her four years. She was also involved with various co-curricular opportunities most notably Harvard Model Congress and Student Council.

Last summer Star attended the prestigious St. Paul’s Advanced Summer Program and this school year she developed a Big Brother/Big Sister program as a function of her senior project. Next year Star will attend Trinity College and study Economics.

Bennett will be attending the University of Washington.

Platt will be attending the University of Maine at Farmington.
