Roundup: Tigers edged by Huskies

Monadnock 4, Newport 3

SWANZEY – The Huskies defended their home field on Friday, beating Newport 4-3 in eight innings.

Trailing 3-0 entering the seventh, Monadnock rallied for 3 runs to force extras and then walked off in the bottom of the eighth.

For Newport, Shelby Adams led the way, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Lacey McNeel ws 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.

Newport had 8 hits to Monadnock’s 6, but some errors piled up for the Tigers.

McNeel pitched 7.2 innings, striking out 9 while allowing 6 hits and 2 walks for just 2 earned runs.

Springfield 9, Mill River 6

CLARENDON, Vt. – Freshman Izzy Belisle went the distance at pitcher for the Cosmos, and picked up her first varsity start.

Belisle worked out of some jams and kept her composure, and with solid play from her defense, the Comsos moved to a record of 11-4, securing their first win since star pitcher Hannah Crosby went down with a serious knee injury last Friday at Hartford.

All three outfielders came up big for Springfield, as Ashley Chamberlain, Haley Streeter, and Kayla Gibbons all made difficult catches in key situations.

Mykahla Jasinski led the Cosmos’ offense with a double off the fence and a single, scoring both times. Mycah White also scored twice after reaching with singles. Gibbons scored twice as well.

The Cosmos had 8 hits and scored in 5 of the 7 innings Friday.

With the win, Springfield clinches a top-four seed in D-II and will travel to Otter Valley Saturday to wrap up their regular season.

Green Mtn. 26, Woodstock 9

WOODSTOCK, Vt. – The Chiefs had 27 hits and were walked 9 times, picking up a road win Friday to finish their regular season at 13-3.

Erika Knockenhauer got the complete-game win, giving up 10 hits and striking out 4.

At the plate, Maddie Wilson led the way going 4-for-7 with 8 RBIs, including a grand slam. Rachel Guerra and Kim Cummings each had 4 hits. Tierney O’Brien, Annie Lamson, Meeka Hance and Maya Farrar all had 3 hits with Farrar having a triple.

GM is looking at either a 3 or a 4 seed.

Windsor 28, Bellows Falls 3

WESTMINSTER, Vt. – Windsor rallied for 17 hits to pick up their third consecutive win.

For the Jacks, Kristin Clark went 3-for-3 with a double and 2 singles and had 4 RBIs. Hannah Wood went 2-for-2 with a double and a single with an RBI.

Windsor started strong, scoring 8 runs in the first, 6 in the second, and 12 more in the fourth.

Peyton Richardson threw all 5 innings. She allowed 4 hits, with 2K and 2 BB.

“That was a strong finish to our season winning our last three,” said Windsor coach Heather Stearns. “We are in good shape for the playoffs.”

BASEBALL

White River Valley 8, Green Mtn. 2

SOUTH ROYALTON, Vt. – The Chiefs end their regular season with a 13-2 record following Friday’s road loss.

For GM, Everett Mosher was 2-for-3 and Sawyer Pippin had an RBI single.

Ty Merrill was on the mound for GM, going 4 innings, striking out 5 while allowing 6 hits, 2 walks, and 5 runs.

Logan Martin got the win for WRV, going all 7 innings and striking out 10.
