ATHENS, Vt. — On May 25, at 3:49 a.m, troopers from the Westminster barracks responded to the area of Route 35 in the town of Athens for a report of a single-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, troopers observed a vehicle with substantial damage to it and no occupants inside. Further investigation revealed Matthew J. Tyler, 20, of Springfield, Vt. was operating the vehicle at the time of the crash. Tyler showed signs of impairment while troopers spoke with him. He was screened and subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. He was transported to the Westminster barracks for processing.
Tyler must appear at Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division on July 23 at 8 a.m. to answer the charge.
