Police statement about dog shooting in park

CLAREMONT — On May 26, 2019, at approximately 5:45 p.m., the Claremont Police Department responded to Monadnock Park to investigate a report of a dog that had been shot. Officers interviewed witnesses, collected physical evidence, and assisted the dog’s owner with obtaining medical treatment for the animal.

While officers were conducting the on-scene investigation, the subject that shot the dog also contacted the police department to report the incident. While all parties involved in this incident have been identified, their names are not being released at this time.

The investigation into the facts and circumstances which led to the shooting continues. When the investigation is complete, it will be reviewed by the Sullivan County Attorney’s Office to determine if any criminal charges are appropriate.
