Chamber announces scholarship recipients

CLAREMONT — The Greater Claremont Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce this year’s

Scholarship Fund recipients Robert (Alex) Carpia and Nathanael Frisch.

The scholarship awards were formally presented at our Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 6. Carpia is the first recipient of our new Continuing Education Scholarship, while Frisch received our High School Senior Scholarship. The selection process was not an easy one as the Scholarship Committee received many qualified applications, and we wish to congratulate all applicants on their many accomplishments.

Nathanael Frisch is a senior at Claremont Christian Academy with a 4.06 GPA while working part-time and participating in the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory Student Internship Program. He also completed over 200 hours of community service during his high school career. These hours include serving meals at the Claremont Soup Kitchen, highway litter clean up, working with the Connect Center and Calvary Baptist Church. Nathanael plans to study computer engineering this fall. One of his letters of recommendation reads, “Nate is also a leader. He has great interpersonal skills and willingly takes on additional responsibilities. As head of his class, he leads by example in his studies and attitude toward academics. He is humble and great at encouraging other students.”

Robert (Alex) Carpia has just completed his freshman year at Western Michigan University where he is pursuing a degree in aviation flight science. Alex holds at 3.24 GPA while performing numerous hours of community service with the Civil Air Patrol, ROTC and the Fort at No. 4. He is currently working two jobs while home this summer. One of his employers describes him as; “bringing a very friendly and logical approach to his position. He is great with any customer he has and doesn’t shy away from the hard tasks.” Alex’s letters of recommendation refer to him as “a leader rather than a follower.” “He possesses a level of maturity and desire to learn that will lead him to continue being successful both inside and outside of the classroom.”

Annually the Greater Claremont Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund accepts applications from graduating seniors as well as adults continuing their education residing in the Greater Claremont Area. A current member of the chamber must employ the recipient, parent, or a legal guardian. The recipient must also show evidence of community service hours and hold at least a 3.0-grade point average. The Greater Claremont Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund is a 501 © 3 organization managed by the Greater Claremont Chamber of Commerce.
