George W. Estes Jr. MARSHVILLE, N.C. — George W. Estes Jr., age 86, passed peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Autumn Care Health and Rehabilitation Center in Marshville. George was born Feb. 21, 1933, to the late George W. Estes Sr. and Helen Anne Sayah Estes, in Hanover, New Hampshire. George attended Hanover High School and was a member of Marauders Football Team until he graduated. After high school, George served our great country as an Army MP in Company C, 32nd Regiment of the 25th Division, during the Korean War. After his service, he began a long and successful career in the insurance industry, retiring as the vice president of Blue Cross Blue Shield, Vermont. George was very involved in the community in many levels. George was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner of the Mount Sinai Temple, Montpelier, Vermont. George enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, painting and most of all, his woodworking. His family was very involved in a fishing club, Meccawe Trout Club in Bridgewater, Vermont. George was proud to teach his grandsons how to fly fish at the club. George will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends, as a well-spoken and clever man with a warm sense of humor. George is survived by his daughter, Dawn Marie Cattier and husband John Peter Cattier, of Marshville; a son, Roger Anthony Estes, of Chiang Mai, Thailand; a son, George Willis Estes III, of Barre, Vermont; five grandsons Donovan Michael Brown Sr., of Winsted, Connecticut, Darrell Marcus Brown, of Gardnerville, Nevada, John Willis Estes, of Weymouth, Massachusetts, Ben Avery Estes, of Heber City, Utah, and John Andrew Cattier, of Muskegon, Michigan; his granddaughter, Catherine Suzanne Cattier Franks, of Barre, Vermont; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition, George left behind many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Survivors also include daughter-in-law, Diana Estes, of Plainfield, Vermont; and a half-sister, Janet Hazlett, of Lebanon, New Hampshire. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Joy Marie Avery Estes; and his two brothers Leo Willis Estes and Robert Willis Estes. Memorial services will be held on 11 a.m. Oct. 5, 2019, in the Evergreen Cemetery in South Strafford, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, please donate in memory of George W.
