Bipartisan granite advantage protection legislation clears House

CONCORD — The House of Representatives voted 206-147 to pass SB 290, protecting Medicaid enrollees from needlessly losing coverage. Rep. Lucy Weber (D- Walpole), Chair of the House Health, Human Resources and Elderly Affairs Committee, released the following statement:

“SB 290 is a result of bipartisan compromise to protect the New Hampshire Granite Advantage Program and ensure that thousands of people do not needlessly lose insurance coverage as a result of new work reporting requirements that begin in July. Federal courts have already ruled similar work requirements in other states unconstitutional, highlighting the need to pass this legislation to protect the healthcare of Granite Staters.”

“SB 290 will prevent the return to an era of uncompensated care and its unfortunate effect on healthcare providers. The language that passed the House today ensures that if a substantial number of enrollees fail to comply with constraints of the work requirement, the requirement will be suspended, providing time for a newly formed Commission to determine the overall effectiveness of the requirement.”
