CONCORD — The House of Representatives voted 209-141 today to pass SB 279, requiring fertility coverage by insurers in New Hampshire. Rep. Ed Butler, (D-Harts Location), chair of the House Commerce Committee, released the following statement:
“Fertility challenges affect 1 in 6 couples in New Hampshire. SB 279 aims to make conception a reality for more of these couples, many of whom must now leave the state for neighboring places that can offer this life-altering insurance coverage. In addition to assisting couples currently experiencing infertility, SB 279 will allow coverage for fertility preservation for people with potential fertility challenges in the future undergoing medical treatments like chemotherapy.”
“New Hampshire is often ranked one of the best places in the nation to raise a family. Given the emotional and financial toll that fertility treatment without insurance places on families, I urge Gov. Sununu to sign SB 279. This legislation addresses the real financial challenges of Granite State couples trying to conceive, and will keep New Hampshire a state that people want to work, play, grow, create and raise families in.”
