CLAREMONT – If you’ve driven down Washington Street during the day in the last two months, you’ve seen her.
Stephanie McGlyn has the unenviable job of holding up a poster board for Pizza Hut, advertising the restaurant chain’s specials to passing motorists, from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., five days a week, but by throwing her all into it McGlyn has gotten a lot of fans. A few people tip her as they come to the stoplight.
McGlyn dances in place, waves at passing motorists, and manages to make the job look fun. Born in Long Branch, New Jersey, she moved to Claremont at age 7.
“Everyone in this town knows me,” she said.
A recent post on Facebook by an appreciative motorist inspired a chorus of agreement. People smile and wave when they see her. “She makes my day,” wrote several. Over 49 people added positive comments, and over 100 “liked” her.
McGlyn gears up for work by putting on her sunglasses and sunscreen and making sure she has water with her. Since she started the job April 24, she’s lost around 20 pounds. “That’s my goal,” she said. “To lose weight and help my mom out with rent.”
On a recent day she was dancing to Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop This Feeling” from the movie “Trolls.”
“You have to make sure you have a positive attitude,” she said. “Don’t let your personal life interfere with your work. And make sure you have good music to dance to.”
