SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — The Black River borders the community recreation area, and even affords some access to its water for wading and cooling off in the heat of summer. The all-volunteer Black River Action Team has been collecting water quality data at this site for several years, paying for the weekly tests out of general donations. BRAT is pleased to announce that the weekly bacteria testing is now being sponsored by Betty McEnaney of TPW Realty (Ludlow); Mrs. McEnaney’s generous $500 acts as an “adoption fee,” covering the lab fees and volunteer travel costs all summer long as well as preparing, printing, and posting a chart on the wooden kiosk for visitors to check the current and past levels of bacteria.
