Over the last few months the Eagle has published articles and letters about proposed changes which may happen in our city.
I’m concerned that effort needed to bring business and jobs here is being squandered on projects which will only negatively affect Claremont’s image.
We are being told that a potential hazardous waste site may be set up at the Junction within walking distance of Maple Ave School while at the other end of town its proposed to dump ex convicts within walking distance of downtown in the old Eagle-Times Building.
We pave Main Street so visitors can have a smooth ride as they drive by 4-5 of our most dilapidated houses.
What’s wrong with this picture?
If the County has a problem housing ex cons then utilize their complex. We already pay to support that. It’s not the city’s responsibnility to solve the county’s problems when we have so many of our own.
If one proposed solution to potentially hazardous dust at the Junction is to keep the debris wet then good luck with that !
At our water/sewer rates it may be cheaper to use Poland Springs water.
I’m concerned that some of our elected officials seem to lack the pride in our city that would out of hand deny both these projects.
Claremont needs to fill the mill buildings with startup businesses. Businesses that can support companies like Red River Computer, National Field reps, and our other local companies as well as those in the Upper Valley.
We need to work diligently to broaden our tax base and reduce the current obscene property taxes our citizens struggle with on a daily basis.
We need our officials to be more proactive in getting additional state aid at both the city and school levels.
I don’t see any of these projects doing anything to help in any of these areas.
