CONCORD — On Friday the New Hampshire Legislature held a public hearing on the effects of the budget veto on the Department of Health and Human Services.
Following the hearing, Senator Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) and Senator Regina Birdsell (R-Hampstead) issued the following statements:
“Instead of holding public hearings, Concord Democrats should be negotiating and working out their disagreements on the budget with Governor Sununu,” said Senator Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro).
“We all agree there needs to be funding for developmental disability and mental health services. However, the state will not succeed if we undermine the economy, create deficit spending and bring back donor towns. My Democrat colleagues have not budged on these issues and they need to come back to the table to work on a budget that is right for New Hampshire.”
“Now that the Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed that our most vulnerable citizens are continuing to receive care, I hope Democratic legislators will do their job and send Governor Sununu a bipartisan budget that meets the needs of the state while protecting taxpayers,” said Senator Regina Birdsell (R-Hampstead).
“It is evident from public testimony that the Farnum Center and other recovery centers across the state provide a great service and have touched many lives and I am proud to continue to support funding for substance abuse services. I would like to commend Commissioner Meyers for his work providing mental health, substance abuse and DCYF services to many Granite Staters who are most in need of help.”
