NEWPORT — Alice, born in Newport on May 10, 1932, to Clyde and Elizabeth (Reed) Poupart, died Aug. 18, 2019. She lived in Newport most of her life and raised her family. After her husband (Clifford) passed, Alice moved to Cape Cod where she enjoyed the ocean and being with her cousin, Margaret (Laber). Her family enjoyed visiting her there and she was always happy to take them to the Christmas Tree shops and the beach. As her family grew with grandchildren and great-grands, Alice made her way back to Newport. Her family was a big part of her life and she loved them with all her heart. She enjoyed traveling to Maine to walk the Marginal Way and enjoyed the sound and smell of the ocean. You could often find her with her daughter and granddaughter, the Three Muskateers, at the casino, Mohegan Sun. She loved knitting, crocheting and would make many scarfs and doilies to give away to family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Clyde and Elizabeth (Reed) Poupart; her husband Clifford L. Smith; her companion of many years Alfred Wendel; and her beloved pug Molly. She is survived by her three children, Albert (Shelli) Smith of Lempster, John (Karen) Smith of Topsham, Vermont, and her daughter Lori (Fran) Laventure of Croydon; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many thanks to Lake Sunapee Hospice who took such great care of her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wags and Wiggles Rescue NH, P.O. Box 106, Newport, NH 03773.
