By Staff Report
WESTMINSTER, Vt. — Bellows Falls had its way with Milton in Westminster, rolling to a 39-16 victory.

The victory gives the Terriers a 6-2 record entering the Division II playoffs.

GIRLS SOCCER

Sunapee 4, Woodville 2

SUNAPEE — On a cold night at Alexander Field, Sunapee came out of the gates slow and struggled to find their rhythm and pace, and went to halftime scoreless with previously undefeated Woodsville. In the second half, Sunapee showed flashes of its game, which culminated in four goals and a 4-2 win.

In the second minute of the second half, Liz Tschudin headed in a beautiful cross from Liz Nichols. Woodsville answered just minutes later. Sunapee rebounded in the 20th minute on a laser from outside the 18 from an Ellie Frederick assist to Liz Tschudin, who was taken down in the box minutes later, which put Abby Pollari on the penalty stripe to make it 3-1. Again, Woodsville would answer with a PK of their own. In the closing minutes, Skylar Hathorn took a feed from Ellie Frederick and put an end to a competitive game.

“I learned more about our team tonight than in all the previous games combined. While I don’t think this was our best game, I think I have some strong ideas about where we go from here. What is most important is the girls played hard. The defense was tested, Miah Hamm played well in the back (8 saves) and we found a way to win on senior night,” said Sunapee coach Myles Cooney.

Mt. Royal Academy 4, Newport 0

NEWPORT — The Lady Knights defeated Newport 4-0 Thursday. MRA moves to 4-8, while Newport remains winless going into the final week of the season.

Sophie LaRose posted her second shutout of the season, totaling three saves, one of which was a magnificent scoring chance from deep by Newport. The Lady Knights outshot the Tigers 18-3, scoring two goals in each half. The goal scorers were Katherine McMenaman (2), Annie Klucinec and Kateri Kalpakgian. Each goal was assisted, with Annie Klucinec sharing the ball at two assists, and Antigoni Souliotis and Rosie Treece each making a nice feed that led to a goal.

The Lady Knights host Moltonborough in the traditional North-South matchup on Saturday, with a tip off at 11 a.m. in Newbury.

West Rutland 1, Black River 0

LUDLOW, Vt. — West Rutland avoided the upset when Anna Cyr scored off Kiera Pipeling’s corner kick with two minutes remaining.

“Our goalie Hailey Pierce was amazing,” Black River coach Howie Paul said.

Pierce raked in 22 saves.

“Both teams played extremely well,” Paul said. “West Rutland is the No. 2 team in the state (Division IV) and we played with them for 78 minutes.”

Black River will take a 5-8 record into the playoffs and Paul believes that will be good enough to land the Presidents the No. 8 seed and a home game. He said a probable foe would be Sharon Academy.

BOYS SOCCER

Woodsville 3, Sunapee 2

SUNAPEE — The Woodsville Engineers came into town this afternoon and put up three goals to beat the Lakers 3-2. Coming into the game, both teams had only one loss on the season.

Sunapee’s Michael Mullen put the Lakers into the lead in the first half. The Lakers controlled play pretty well in that half but the second half was a different story. Woodsville put the Lakers on their heels for the first 20 minutes of the half and scored three unanswered goals. Mullen found the net again in the last 10 minutes of the game to keep it close but Sunapee could not find the equalizer.

“It was our match to win tonight. In the first half we should have put in a few goals and the second half we let up a bit. Woodsville has a quality team and their keeper was on his game today,” said Lakers head coach Jack Iacopino

The Lakers will close out the regular season on Monday at Wilton-Lyndeborough (11-2). The Lakers record drops to 13-2

VOLLEYBALL

Epping 3, Sunapee 0

SUNAPEE — In the first set, the Lakers fell behind early, fought back to within 2 at mid set and then the Blue Devils ran off to win 25-16. The second set started like the first, but this time the Lakers could not catch up, losing 25-13. The third set started the same as the others with Epping opening up a lead early. The Lakers closed the gap but couldn’t quite catch up. The Lakers lost the set 25-19.

Sunapee will head to Stevens on Monday.

FIELD HOCKEY

Windsor 8, Springfield 0

WINDSOR, Vt. — The Windsor field hockey team celebrated Senior Day with an 8-0 victory over Springfield on Friday.

Windsor finishes 11-2-1 and is one of the favorites when the Division III playoffs begin next week.

The Cosmos fall to 2-11.

Lebanon 3, Stevens 2

CLAREMONT — The Cardinals came out on fire and led early only to see that lead get erased late in the first half Friday. Lebanon would add a goal late in the game to escape with a win.

Lebanon improves to 11-3 while Stevens finishes the regular season with an 8-6 record. Pairings from the NHIAA will be announced next week for tournament play.
