REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. — Rain and colder weather dampened the scores for the third and final round of the Lady Blue Hen Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware as the Dartmouth women’s golf team carding a 329 (+41), falling back three spots into eighth place at 64-over for the tournament. Nine of the 11 teams posted their worst round of the weekend today, including team champion Penn, which was the only squad to break 300 and finished at even par overall, 29 strokes ahead of second-place Seton Hall.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Lees played a consistent round with 11 pars and seven bogeys for a 7-over 79 to finish tied for 16th overall at with a 226 (+10) on the 6,126-yard, par-72 course at Rehoboth Beach Country Club. She was one of just 14 players in the field of 67 that did not have a double-bogey or worse in the round.
The six players on the course for Dartmouth combined for five birdies, two by senior Maddie Nelson who was playing as an individual. Freshman Angela Zhang had one as well while posting an 85 (+13) to finish tied for 35th at 18-over. Sophomore Kristen Chen also had a birdie and posted a nine-over 81 to close out her tournament at 20-over par, good for a tie for 38th.
The other birdie belonged to freshman Samantha Yao as she finished the tournament in a tie for 48th with a 239 (+23), while junior Julianne Strauch finished in 58th at 31-over. Nelson matched Zhang’s 9-over 81 today and tied for 32nd with a 232 (+16).
Four of the top five players on the leader board belonged to Penn, including Susan Xiao who was the only golfer to break par over the three rounds with a 7-under 209 to win medalist honors.
With today’s round, Dartmouth wraps up its fall schedule and will return to the links in the spring.
