Stevens and Newport face big tests on the road

The Newport Tigers and Stevens Cardinals begin their Division III field hockey tournament on the road starting on Wednesday.

No. 9 Stevens finished the season with an 8-6 record and will travel to No. 8 Mascenic (9-5) on Wednesday. The Vikings are winners of five of their last six games as the Cardinals will take the 90-minute ride to New Ipswich.

The winner of this game will head to Hopkinton to face the No. 1 Hawks on Saturday.

No. 10 Newport finished the season with an 8-6 record and will hop on the bus for a 127-mile ride to face No. 7 Berlin on Wednesday. Berlin has won six games in a row. No. 2 Newfound face the winner of this game on Saturday at home.

No. 1 Hopkinton and No. 2 Newfound receive a first-round bye.

No. 4 Lebanon hosts No. 13 Kearsage

No. 5 Mascoma hosts No.12 Winnisquam

No. 7 Berlin hosts No.10 Newport

No. 6 Gilford hosts No. 11 Conant
