NEWPORT — For five hours spread over meetings held on Tuesday, Oct. 15 and Wednesday, Oct. 16, the Search Committee for next year’s Newport Superintendent worked together to determine the key roles our community needs from next year’s Superintendent.
So far, the committee volunteers have devoted nine hours to the task.
Key to Tuesday and Wednesday’s work was the data gathered from the recent community survey, which asked for input about desired Superintendent qualities. This survey – developed, distributed, and tabulated within one week by Terrie Scott – revealed similarities in opinion about the characteristics needed by the new Superintendent.
The survey results guided discussions on necessary superintendent qualities. With these findings firmly in mind, the committee discussed criteria requirements by trying to describe the key roles Newport’s new superintendent must fill.
In order to fulfill these identified roles, a candidate must meet competency requirements associated with those roles. Fortunately, the Bryan group brings descriptions of these competencies.
A complete report of the survey findings will be presented by Russ Medbery at the first Newport School Board meeting on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. in the Lou Thompson Room located at the Sugar River Valley Technical Center.
At the most recent meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 23, the committee worked on drafting a job description to be used to advertise the position nationally.
