Claremont Senior Center News: October 26, 2019

Ghosts and goblins have invaded Claremont! Giant pumpkins and bats galore. However, there may be a superhero afoot to save us! In the morning, all is quiet. Some of the invaders have disappeared and the life gone out of them. No lights either. Are they just sleeping? Only the night will tell.

Witches and goblins are invited to the Halloween lunch at the Claremont Senior Center on Thursday,Oct. 31. Our resident ghosts will have the cauldrons going to serve a delicious Tourtiere (Pork Pie). Come in costume if you dare. A prize awaits!

We are on the road again. Join us Wednesday, Oct. 30, for a bus trip to the Wright Museum of World War II in Wolfboro, N.H. We will leave from the Center at 8 a.m. A guided tour will be at 10 a.m. to noon. Lunch, at your cost, will be at a local restaurant and return to the Center will be by 4 p.m. Cost is $15 for members, $20 for non-members. Seniors and persons 50 years or older can participate. Only 35 seats available. Call 543-5998 to sign-up.

Stretch and Strength! Silver Sneakers offers both at the weekly classes every Tuesday at 10:45 a.m. All fitness levels are tended to. The 45-minute class with music offers fun, non-impact functional exercise all at your pace. Use a chair for support. The only equipment you need is non-slip shoes. Come early, exercise then enjoy lunch. Cost is $3. Open to the public.

Speaking of lunch…

Tuesday, Oct. 29 — Salad, stuffed peppers with tomato sauce, cauliflower and blueberry crisp.

Thursday, Oct. 31 — Soup, toutiere (pork pie), mashed potatoes, string beans and tapioca pudding.

What a great turnout we had for our Turkey Dinner this past Saturday. The staff was just marvelous as always. They really out did themselves. Thank you to everyone who attended. Please tell your friends the next one will be Saturday, Nov. 16, 5-7. Join us.

Men’s breakfast reminder. The next breakfast will be Monday, Nov. 18.

Special notice! Several members have expressed a desire to play cribbage. Anyone who would like play, please call 543-5998. Choose Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings. Leave your name and number. We hope to get this started soon.

Foot Clinic – Thursday, Nov. 7, Wednesday, Nov. 13 and Wednesday, Nov. 20.

Blood Pressure – Thursday, Nov. 7, 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 21, 11-noon.

We are still looking for desk help. Either morning or afternoon, to answer the phone, take messages and do memberships. Not hard!

Also, Bingo Callers are needed. Choose one Wednesday a month. Call 543-5998 to apply for either position.

Thought of the Week: The proper name for “Senior “ women should be “QueenAgers.”
