Newport Senior Center
Where in the world is Brenda Burns? Were you able to guess any destinations from last week? If not, maybe you can do better this week. My husband and I sailed the crystal blue waters to the largest Pacific Ocean Port where volcanoes could be seen on the horizon. It was the most colorful Central American Country to explore.
Next, we were slowly raised up over a mountain and lowered like never before. This was a first time experience that will be unforgettable. This experience of transferring from the Pacific Ocean to Atlantic Ocean will be forever locked in our memories.
Now one last stop to an island off the Caribbean Sea before having to sail back to reality. This was “Our Island” with pristine waters and white sand beaches. The local currency is florin.
The reality is, when I get back the 12 Days of Christmas Raffle will be well under way and the anticipation of the possibility of winning $100 a day will put large smiles on everyone’s face. We have many of our continued sponsors for this event and some new sponsors we are so proud to add.
This year’s sponsors include, Sugar River Bank, Bar Harbor Bank, Claremont Savings Bank, Hubert’s Dept. Store, Clark & Mortenson Insurance, and LaValley Building Supply. We are proud to announce our new sponsors, SummerCrest Senior Living and Coronis Market. Our prime sponsor again this year is Goodrich Oil with $500 and although Mascoma Savings Bank has been a previous sponsor, they have increased their sponsorship to $500. We also received an anonymous donor for another $500 prize. Yes, that is three $500 days this year.
Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Newport Senior Center or at the Earl Bourdon Centre. Employees will have tickets for sale as well as board members and volunteers. Be sure to get your tickets early and good luck to all.
There is so much excitement building up at the center the roof is ready to pop. Take the excitement and let it continue to flow into the holiday quickly heading our way. We have a Holiday Craft Fair & Bake Sale coming up on November 9. This will be followed by Brunch with Santa on December 7. Both of which will be firsts for the center.
If you have suggestions on activities and events you would like to see happen at the center, be sure to share them with any of our volunteer board members.
As your daily newspaper, we are committed to providing you with important local news coverage for Sullivan County and the surrounding areas.
