NEWPORT — Tax bills for Newport property owners will be in the mail on Friday.
And, as projected over the past few months, the news is not good.
The 2019 Newport tax rate has been set at $32.53 per $1,000 of property valuation, up
by $2.13 over the 2018 rate of $30.40.
According to Newport Finance Director Paul Brown, payment in full is due by Dec. 10. Late payments after that date will be assessed an interest charge of 8 percent.
Broken down, the municipal tax rate is $11.92 compared to $11.79 in 2018 (up 13 cents); county tax, $2.86 compared to $2.89 in 2018, (down 3 cents); state education tax, $2.14, compared to $2.16, (down 2 cents), and local education, $15.61 compared to $13.56 (up $2.05).
Newport’s total property tax commitment in 2019 came in at $13,942,293. In 2018 that amount was $13,066,646.
Townwide valuation in 2019 amounted to $433,249,619. In 2018 it was $415,106,816. Valuation with utilities in 2019 was $415,858,519 , down from $435,103,216 in 2018.
The New Hampshire Department of Revenue Administration also announced Grantham’s tax rate information earlier this week.
